With an increasing number of patches awaiting testing, the WordPress Test Team is urging developers to participate in their weekly Patch Testing Sessions. These sessions are crucial for maintaining the quality and stability of both the WordPress core and the Gutenberg plugin.
The Test Team’s latest update highlights the current state of testing needs. As of March 10, 2026, there are 104 core issues needing patch testing, marking an increase of four from the previous period. For the Gutenberg plugin, there is one issue pending patch testing, with no change in numbers over the past two weeks.
Participation in Testing Sessions
The weekly Patch Testing Sessions, held every Tuesday at 3:00 pm UTC, provide an opportunity for contributors to dive into the testing process. These sessions take place in the #core-test channel and are open to anyone interested in contributing to WordPress development. The sessions are particularly beneficial for those new to testing, offering guidance and support from experienced developers.

During these sessions, participants can engage in testing patches for both the WordPress core and the Gutenberg plugin. The sessions also provide a platform for discussing testing strategies and addressing any challenges that may arise during the process.
Current Testing Needs
The update from the Test Team categorizes issues into two main groups: those needing reproduction and those requiring patch testing. For the WordPress core, there are currently 141 issues in need of reproduction, with no change from previous counts. Meanwhile, 10 new issues have been flagged for patch testing, reflecting a slight increase in testing requirements.
On the Gutenberg side, the need for reproducing issues has grown, with seven issues pending, an increase of three from the prior period. Although there is only one issue requiring patch testing, the need for thorough testing remains critical to ensure the plugin’s functionality and performance.
Engage with the Test Team
The Test Team encourages developers and testers to join the #core-test channel to stay updated on testing needs and to contribute to ongoing testing efforts. Engaging with the team provides valuable insights into the testing process and helps ensure that WordPress and its plugins remain reliable and robust.
