The WordPress Kolhapur Community is nurturing the next generation of contributors through its ambitious Online Contribution Series, inspired by the overwhelming success of WordCamp Kolhapur 2025. This initiative is a concerted effort to guide new and aspiring contributors in exploring diverse ways to engage with the WordPress project.
Launched on March 14, 2025, the nine-event series was meticulously organized by the WordCamp Kolhapur Meetup group, with pivotal contributions from Abhay Kulkarni. As the lead organizer of WordCamp Kolhapur 2025, Kulkarni took the helm in coordinating these events, ensuring each session smoothly facilitated the onboarding of new contributors.
The series emerged from a personal journey of growth and gratitude. As a recent graduate of the WordPress Contributor Mentorship: 2024 Q4 Cohort, the lead organizer experienced firsthand the empowerment and recognition that comes with contributing to WordPress Core. Inspired by the mentorship and opportunities, including a Diversity Scholarship to WordCamp Asia 2025, the organizer aimed to give back by fostering similar opportunities for others.
Kickstarting Contribution Journeys
The series kicked off with ‘Kickstart Your WordPress Contribution Journey’ on March 15, 2025, focusing on foundational tasks such as setting up WordPress.org profiles and engaging with global Slack channels. Participants were introduced to the various Make WordPress teams, concluding with an activity for contributing images to the WordPress Photo Directory. This initial session saw nine contributors, including three first-timers.
A Dive into Core and Patterns
Subsequent sessions held between March 25 and April 15, 2025, concentrated on Core Contributions, specifically testing Release Candidate versions of WordPress 6.8. The emphasis was on functional testing and community engagement during release parties, drawing in 28 participants, 23 of whom were first-time contributors.

On March 29, attendees explored the WordPress Pattern Directory, learning to design block patterns and adhere to accessibility guidelines for submitting reusable layouts. This session attracted 12 contributors, with 11 making their debut contributions.
Expanding Contributions to Translations and Media
The focus shifted to language accessibility on April 5, 2025, as the Polyglots / Translation Contributions session guided participants in translating WordPress core, plugins, and themes. The session welcomed eight contributors, seven of whom were new.
On April 12, contributors delved into WordPress TV, understanding video uploads, captioning, and translating community talks, enriched by insights from guest speaker Prathamesh Palave.
Engagement Beyond the Initial Series
An additional online meetup focusing on the WordPress Test Team was held on June 15, 2025, featuring Mrs. Krupa Nanda. She detailed the essential role of the Test Team in maintaining WordPress quality through functional and regression testing, offering a roadmap for continued contributor engagement.
Through these concerted efforts, the WordPress Kolhapur Community has not only expanded its contributor base but has also strengthened the collaborative spirit that underpins the WordPress ecosystem.
