Uganda’s Website Projects Competition Expands for 2025

The Uganda Website Projects Competition is making a significant return in 2025, promising to double its impact and reach. Set to take place on June 20, 2025, at the National ICT Innovation Hub in Kampala, this event is a notable step forward in nurturing digital talent through WordPress.

Last year, the competition debuted with ten student projects and earned recognition at the State of the Word address. With the theme “Problem Solving with WordPress,” the 2025 edition aims to showcase 20 innovative website projects. The competition is not just about building websites; it’s about equipping young Ugandans with the skills and confidence to address community needs through technology.

New Categories to Foster Early Digital Literacy

In a strategic expansion, the organizers have introduced a third category to the competition, targeting younger students. This year’s categories include the Junior Category for primary school students, Rising Stars for secondary school students, and Explorers for post-secondary students from vocational schools and universities. By engaging primary school students, the competition aims to plant the seeds of digital literacy and problem-solving skills early in academic journeys.

The inclusion of younger participants reflects a commitment to developing a pipeline of tech-savvy individuals who can leverage WordPress to create solutions for local challenges. Such initiatives are crucial in a country where digital literacy can significantly impact future job prospects and economic growth.

A Day Rich with Learning and Networking

The event isn’t just a competition; it’s a full day of learning, networking, and celebration. The schedule includes hands-on workshops, expert panel discussions, and pitch presentations across all categories. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from industry experts, engage in Q&A sessions, and gain feedback from adjudicators.

VIP tickets are available for $26, and students selected to present their projects will attend for free. These affordable options aim to maximize participation and exposure for Uganda’s burgeoning digital talent.

Support and Sponsorship Opportunities

The call for participation and sponsorship is open, inviting educational institutions to register their ICT Club students and teachers. The project submission deadline is June 6, 2025. Sponsorship packages offer various levels of visibility, ranging from Platinum at $2500 to Community Sponsorship at $130. These opportunities allow businesses to support and invest in the development of Africa’s digital future.

The Uganda Website Projects Competition not only highlights the potential of WordPress as a tool for innovation but also underscores the importance of community-driven initiatives in fostering digital skills. By expanding its reach and impact, the competition is setting a precedent for similar events across the continent.
